Book Description:

A baby might be the best thing that ever happened to Marie… but it’s also the most chaotic.

Just when Marie thought her life couldn’t get any more complicated, she and Brian are thrown into the whirlwind of parenthood. Between sleepless nights and endless nappies, maternity leave isn’t exactly the break she imagined.

As she struggles to find a group of mums who share her love for wine and a good laugh on Friday afternoons, Marie can’t help but feel like everyone else has this parenting thing figured out — while she’s just trying to survive.

But amidst all the nappy changes and baby bottles, Marie’s Fat Club friends are facing their own personal struggles, and she’s so wrapped up in her new role as a mum that she’s barely noticed.

With everything spinning out of control, can Marie find a way to be there for her friends when they need her the most?

Maybe it’s time to be open about her own struggles, because if there’s one thing Marie’s learned, it’s that friends are there to help each other.

Full of humour, heart, and a reminder that nobody has to face life’s crazy moments alone, A Friend in Need is the perfect story about love, friendship, and finding your way through the mess of motherhood.

A Friend in Need is best enjoyed as the fourth book in the Friends Like These series.

My Thoughts:

We catch back up with Marie and her friends over a year after the previous book. Things have changed quite a bit in that time with Marie, Brian and Jake and Michael now being parents. I shouldn’t laugh at Marie struggling with motherhood but oh my goodness, there are some absolute howlers in this story!

Fat club is still a weekly event although Marie is wishing it wasn’t as she would rather catch up with sleep but it was so good to see all the gang although everyone seems to be having struggles of their own which Marie can’t help herself but try and get involved in. Brian is an absolute godsend and him and Marie have the perfect relationship. It would be quite sickening if they weren’t such great characters.

The author shows the struggles of parenthood in a humorous way but it is real and I had every sympathy. Trying to do the best for your child whilst not losing yourself in the process can be hard. Getting the balance isn’t always easy but having a great support network always helps and these friends have that with abundance.

A Friend in Need was a real tonic. I laughed and empathised with the characters and I am so going to miss them with this being the last book in the series. There has been so many laughs as well as heartfelt moments along the way and without a doubt the characters have stolen a piece of my heart. Another series of this author’s that I can’t recommend highly enough!
