Book Description:

With help from the Little Duck Pond Café girls, Rosie’s Spice Kitchen is becoming a firm favourite at the Lockley Meadow farmers’ market. But when shocking things start happening and a face from the past stirs up memories she would rather forget, widow Rosie’s hopes for a better future for her and her little daughter, Amelie, are suddenly dashed. Has someone discovered her devastating secret? The secret that is preventing her from moving on and finding love again?
Meanwhile, new mum Ellie and step-daughter Maisie are both hiding emotional secrets of their own . . .

My Thoughts:

I was so pleased that the story focuses on Rosie who we meet briefly in the last book in the series. A single mother who is making ends meet after setting up a stall selling Indian dishes. My mouth was watering just thinking about it! I had every empathy for Rosie as she has had a difficult time finding herself as a widow so young so when things start to happen that could ruin things for her, I was routing for all to come good.

It was intriguing finding out who was behind the awful things happening to Rosie as well as more about what had happened in the past. Along with this, Maisie gets to play a bigger part which I also enjoyed, more so the diary entries as it was a blast from the past to the days when I used to write in one myself. The story also tackles being a mother and the stresses and pressures that comes with being a mum, more so to a newborn. It will hopefully be a reminder to us all that we are all human and there is nothing wrong in asking for help or discussing our feelings.

Daydreams and Doughnut Cake captured my mind and let me escape the real world whilst I caught up with my favourite characters. Whilst it is a lighthearted read, it still manages to touch on everyday issues but with a positive spin. It certainly left me feeling up beat as well as hungry at the delicious mentions of food. A book guaranteed to leave you with a smile on your face and a spring in your step!

My thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources for inviting me to be part of the tour.

Rosie Green has been scribbling stories ever since she was little. Back then they were rip-roaring adventure tales with a young heroine in perilous danger of falling off a cliff or being tied up by ‘the baddies’. Thankfully, Rosie has moved on somewhat, and now much prefers to write romantic comedies that melt your heart and make you smile, with really not much perilous danger involved at all, unless you count the heroine losing her heart in love.

Rosie’s brand new series of novellas is centred on life in a village café. The first two stories in the series are: Spring at The Little Duck Pond Cafe and Summer at The Little Duck Pond Café.
